Course Discovery & Catalog
Students can explore available courses through structured course listings, grade levels, subject information, pricing, and detailed course pages.
A full-stack online education platform for CanadianGrad Academy, combining course discovery, enrollment journeys, educational content, academic planning tools, and a custom administration system.

Case Study Overview
CanadianGrad Academy required more than a traditional school website. Students and families need to discover courses by grade, understand pricing and academic requirements, access planning resources, and move through a clear enrollment journey. The platform also contains a substantial catalog spanning Grades 9–12, ESL and tutoring services.
Behind the public experience, administrative functionality was required to manage operational data and platform workflows without exposing those responsibilities to the public-facing application.
Engineering Workflow
Development started by separating the platform into clear responsibilities: the public learning experience, editorial content management, application APIs, persistent data, and administration.
The Next.js frontend was structured around the primary student and parent journeys, including course discovery, academic information, educational resources, planning tools, and enrollment pathways.
Prismic CMS was integrated for content that needs to remain editable without requiring application deployments, while application-specific operations were separated into an Express.js backend backed by MongoDB.
A dedicated admin dashboard was also developed for internal management, keeping administrative workflows separate from the public website while allowing the platform's operational data to be managed through a controlled interface.
Technical Architecture
The platform uses a decoupled architecture in which each layer has a defined responsibility.
Next.js powers the public-facing application and user experience.
Prismic CMS provides structured content management for editorial and website content that can be updated independently from the application code.
Express.js provides the backend API layer for application-specific business logic and operations.
MongoDB provides persistent storage for application data handled by the backend.
A separate admin dashboard provides an internal interface for managing operational functionality without mixing administrative workflows into the public user experience.
The high-level architecture follows:
Public Website → Next.js → Prismic CMS
Application Features → Next.js → Express.js API → MongoDB
Administration → Admin Dashboard → Express.js API → MongoDB
Case Study Overview
Decoupled CMS Architecture — Prismic separates editorial content from application logic, allowing website content to evolve without coupling every update to a deployment.
Full-Stack Application Layer — Next.js and Express.js separate presentation concerns from backend business logic and application operations.
Custom Admin Dashboard — Internal administration functionality provides a dedicated environment for managing platform operations separately from the public website.
MongoDB Data Layer — Dynamic application data is persisted through MongoDB and accessed through the backend API rather than directly from the frontend.
Structured Course Discovery — The public platform organizes a substantial course catalog across Grade 9–12, ESL and tutoring categories with course information and pricing.
Academic Planning Experience — The website provides additional pathways such as the OSSD calculator and graduation-plan review rather than limiting the experience to a simple course catalog.
Students can explore available courses through structured course listings, grade levels, subject information, pricing, and detailed course pages.
A structured enrollment journey allows prospective students to move from course discovery to registration and the next steps of joining the academy.
A dedicated student-facing portal provides authenticated access to learning-related functionality and separates the student experience from the public website.
A purpose-built administration interface enables internal staff to manage platform operations and application data without relying on the public-facing website.
Interactive academic tools, including OSSD-related planning functionality, help students and families understand graduation requirements and plan their studies.
Structured CMS integration allows the academy to manage website, course, and educational content independently from application deployments.
An Express.js API provides the application layer for dynamic functionality, with MongoDB handling persistent application data used across the platform.
The platform supports educational and guidance content beyond course listings, giving students and parents access to information throughout their academic journey.
The public website, course discovery experience, and key user journeys are designed to remain usable across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
